Student Council

At Carysfort N.S., the Student Council plays an important role in giving pupils a voice and ensuring that their ideas and opinions are heard. The Council is made up of elected representatives from 4th, 5th and 6th classes, along with officers such as the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer. Elections take place each year so that children experience the democratic process in action.

The Student Council provides pupils with opportunities to:

  • Represent their classmates and bring forward new ideas.

  • Take part in decision-making about school life.

  • Help organise events such as fundraising activities, themed days and assemblies.

  • Promote kindness, respect and wellbeing across the school.

We link our work to the Ombudsman for Children’s Office (OCO) and its focus on children’s rights, especially the right of every child to have a say in matters that affect them. Being part of the Student Council allows pupils to learn about responsibility, teamwork, leadership and active citizenship in a real and meaningful way.

The Council meets regularly with a teacher liaison, and minutes are shared with classes so that every pupil can stay informed. Updates are also given at whole-school assemblies, ensuring that all voices are represented and celebrated.

By taking part in the Student Council, children learn valuable life skills such as public speaking, problem-solving, listening, and working together towards a common goal. Most importantly, they see how their ideas can make a real difference in the daily life of the school.
