STEM at Carysfort N.S.

At Carysfort National School, we place a strong emphasis on STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – as an exciting and essential part of our children’s education. We believe that nurturing curiosity and encouraging exploration helps our pupils to develop the confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

STEM learning is woven through our curriculum in many practical and enjoyable ways. From science experiments in the classroom to coding workshops, engineering challenges, and maths trails around the school grounds, our pupils are encouraged to question, design, test, and reflect. Each activity allows children to see the real-world relevance of what they are learning while developing teamwork, resilience, and critical thinking.

Throughout the year, pupils also take part in national STEM initiatives such as Science Week, Maths Week, and Engineering Week, as well as projects linked to Green Schools and sustainability. We are especially proud of our pupils’ involvement in the Bebras Challenge, which develops computational thinking and problem-solving through fun, interactive tasks, and the ESB Science Blast, where children showcase their scientific investigations and present their findings with great enthusiasm.

By engaging with STEM, our pupils gain the opportunity to become active learners, problem-solvers, and future innovators. At Carysfort, we are proud to provide the foundation for a lifelong love of discovery and learning.
