Maths at Carysfort NS
At Carysfort NS, we want every child to see themselves as a mathematician – curious, capable, and confident. With the introduction of the new Primary Mathematics Curriculum (2023), our teaching goes beyond learning facts and procedures. Instead, it focuses on problem-solving, reasoning, communication, and making connections to the real world.
The curriculum is organised into five key strands:
-
Algebra
-
Data
-
Measures
-
Number
-
Shape and Space
Our teachers are engaging with new resources and training to ensure that maths is active, enjoyable, and inclusive. Lessons involve discussion, collaboration, hands-on activities, and digital tools to support learning for all.
How parents can support maths at home:
-
Involve your child in everyday maths (e.g., measuring ingredients while cooking, working out change in a shop, or reading timetables).
-
Play games and puzzles that encourage logical thinking and number skills.
-
Talk positively about maths and encourage your child to explain how they solved a problem, even if they got a different answer.
