SPEECH & DRAMA CLASSES AT CARYSFORT
Speech & Drama has been a very popular after school activity at Carysfort for over 30 years now. There are various classes during the week, catering for all ages from Junior Infants up to 6th class. The classes aim to build skills like communication, language & fluency, creativity, imagination, teamwork, voice and movement. In the classes, children get a chance to move around, invent stories and characters, act out well known stories, recite poetry and read from scripts. As the children progress though school, the material becomes more challenging. The classes are designed to be fun and inclusive.
Alongside our weekly sessions, we work on a few special projects during the year. Each group puts on a play for their families. We work on solo performances of poetry and drama, and we have a ‘fun feis’ at one of our classes. The 5th and 6th class groups also write and direct their own movies during the year. Each child is given the option of doing a Drama Exam towards the end of the school year at Arclight Studio.
Speech & Drama classes are energetic, fun and collaborative, and the children are encouraged to ‘think outside the box’ , solve problems and work together in a lively and friendly environment.
